The JCB Midi CX by Bruder toys is a 1:16 scale toy digger.
World-renowned family-owned German toy company Bruder specialize in the manufacture of toy vehicles.
The Bruder JCB Midi digger at 1:16 scale is significantly larger than scales used by other toy companies such as Britains at 1:32 or Siku at 1:50 or 1:87. In fact, the JCB Midi CX is actually the compact little brother of the even larger Bruder JCB 4CX which is also available in 1:16 scale.
Arguably, the larger scale makes for greater playability as it’s a lot easier for little hands to manipulate the loader and bucket of Bruder toy diggers and also to load them with dirt, sand or whatever.
Apart from the roof of the cab, the JCB Midi CX is made entirely of hard plastic. The plastic used has a reassuringly rugged feel. There are no plastic windows in the cab or doors; this is handy for easy access to put a driver figure in the operator’s seat. You can even reach in and turn the steering wheel (though this does not actually turn the wheels).
In terms of articulation, this digger doesn’t disappoint. The front loader can be moved up and down through 90 degrees and the bucket tips well; it even has a little articulated handle to aid the realistic digging movement. The boom and stick of the backhoe pivot, and the back bucket also moves freely. Another great feature, the stabilizer arms can be positioned right down to each side of the digger, and then folded back up and clicked into an upright position.
This digger is more stylized than its smaller scale model counterparts. But what it sacrifices in terms of detail, it more than gets back in terms of playability. Bruder’s JCB Midi CX digger toy has a good balance between form and function – it both looks good and plays well too.
